Cruise Nights return to Community UCC beginning Thursday, May 1 at 5 pm. Click the underlined work above to take you to the events page. The specials for the month of May are listed on the calendar for Cruise Nights. We are looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and looking to make new ones this year. Make sure you spread the word on our Cruise nights, May through October, most Thursdays from 5 - 7 pm.
Contemporary Worship - Click the underlined word to take you to the events page. We are taking the show on the road. Our next service will be at Trinity UCC, located at 2449 Cumberland Ave, on Saturday, May 17, at 6 pm. Four local churches have been working on this since August 2024. We hope that you will join us as we sing through most of the service as we tie music to scripture, and provide a time for reflection and testimony as we find out a little about each other and how the music brings out the message in each of us. The service is filled with today's contemporary Christian artists like Brandon Lake, Toby Mac, Mercy Me, and others. Join us for an alternative to the traditional type of service.
Check out the fundraising page where you can click on the order form and order your meat packed sandwiches for $12 each. We have Italian, Ham & Cheese, and Turkey & Cheese. All sandwiches come with lettuce and tomato wrapped separately to keep the sandwiches from getting soggy. We will have onions and hot peppers available if you like them.
We will also have quarts and pints of soup available for sale at $5 for a pint and $10 for a quart.
Additionally, you can take home a homemade dessert. These are available for a donation.
First, the sandwich sale is going on now. Orders can be placed through the website by going to the "NEWS" tab and clicking on "Fundraising and Events." Just click the button and you will be able to fill out your form online. If you need a hard copy of the order form they are available in the lobby of the church. Orders are due September 29 and pick-up is October 12 between 11 and 2 pm.
Second, Candy Bar Bingo is a hit with everyone. This will be held on Friday, October 4 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Entry for the games are a full-size candy bar and a non-perishable food item, that will be donated to the local food pantries. Food and drinks will be available for $1 each. We look forward to seeing and meeting old and new friends.
During the Consistory retreat, members were throwing out ideas that might help the church grow its connection to the "community." One of those ideas was a Contemporary Worship service, another was working together with the other two churches that cover a three-mile area of the community.
We contacted the presidents of Trinity UCC in Mt. Penn and Schwarzwald UCC and began conversations. Together we began talking about the contemporary worship service and other shared events we could do. We started with a questionnaire that we could send out to our members attending and those who have stepped back from a traditional Sunday morning service. This will be sent out electronically and by snail mail to all members of the church on September 8, Rally Day. One of the comments that came from the group was, "Why did this take so long?" Our next meeting is September 5 at 7 pm. If you are interested in having input on the plan or would like to participate in some manner please contact the church office at 610-779-3955 or office@communityucc.net.
As we continue with this plan, we will also be sharing and posting events that are happening at the other churches and they will be sharing events at our church. We are looking forward to this cooperation growing and continuing to build relationships.

Last week, Cruise Nights opened to a beautiful evening with not a cloud in the sky. The parking lot was full along with the dining room. We sold hamburgers and cheeseburgers on opening night along with our standard items of Hot Dogs, a new addition of hamburger BBQ, tossed salads, milk shakes and sundaes. We hope that you will support this fundraiser for the church and come out for dinner. Service starts at 5 pm and goes until 7 pm. The group was advised that we would not be hosting a cruise night on three nights this year, the first one on June 13 as we will be attending the Reading Phillies. We will post the entire list in an upcoming post. The group also agreed to be here on Halloween and host a Trunk or Treat.
Thank you for sharing these contractors with us. There is a good cross-section of trades represented. We hope that this helps with whatever project you have at your home. We know that you trust them to give good work at a fair price.
The staff at Day Springs put together a video to thank everyone who made Christmas a special time for the residents of the facility. I think from the smiles on their faces, everyone did a great job in making Christmas a special time for them. Click the button to play the video
We have been having a time of fellowship after the service each week with coffee and cookies. I forgot to add it to the calendar at the back of the bulletin this week and while I was typing it in, I missed the "h" in Fellowship. Thus the Fellow-sip time is born after getting approval from Pastor Bob to leave my typo in the bulletin. Some mistakes are just worth it. - Jeff
